A tactile audio field recorder designed to feel like a calm, deliberate instrument for capturing sound.
NØTE is an audio field recording app for iOS. It's designed to feel like a physical recording device — minimal, focused, and immediate. No editing timeline. No effects chain. Just a beautiful interface for pressing record and capturing the world around you.
Most audio recording apps are either too simple (voice memos) or too complex (DAWs on a phone). I wanted something in between — a tool with the fidelity and intentionality of a proper field recorder, but the simplicity of pressing one button.
The design language draws from hardware instruments: Nagra recorders, Teenage Engineering devices, and vintage broadcast equipment. Every element on screen serves a purpose.
Every feature in NØTE passes a simple test: would this exist on a physical field recorder? If the answer is no, it gets cut. This constraint keeps the app focused and prevents feature creep.
The result is software that feels less like an app and more like an instrument you reach for when something is worth capturing.
