Relatively Dangerous is a 16-bit arcade kart blaster built for phones. You drive down a neon sunset highway, shoot your way through traffic and fight a series of bosses who are a family, drawn at four times life size. It runs in a browser with nothing to install.
How it plays
- Steer by dragging anywhere on the screen. The kart follows your thumb without jumping to it. On a keyboard, use the arrow keys or A and D.
- Nitro is a tap, or Space. It sends out a shockwave, clears incoming bullets and makes you briefly invincible, then recharges in about a second.
- Fire is automatic.
- Road Rage fills as you score. When it's full you get seven seconds of triple fire and a much higher scoring rate.
- Combos multiply your score up to ×8 and reset when you're hit. You get three hearts, and oil slicks spin you out instead of hurting you.
The family
A boss arrives every third wave, drawn from a shuffled bag so every run goes in a different order and you meet all eight before any repeat. Augie fires pencils, Jeff launches himself down a lane, Hanky sweeps lasers, Schmunk spits word vomit, Ellie Sparkles throws a wall of like buttons, Ron's arm hunts you across the road, Big Back brings winter, and the Chip Queen runs you over.
Each one gets a staged entrance, and nothing can hurt you until it ends. They get the last word on the game-over screen too, with a line of their own.
Share it
The game-over screen builds a score card on the spot and opens your phone's share sheet. Your best score and the boss grudges are kept on your own device. On a phone, Add to Home Screen gives it a fullscreen launch under its own icon.
