The Width of a Day: an atlas of the Diomede Islands · Last updated November 4, 2026
The short version
The Width of a Day (diomedeislands.com) has no accounts, no ads and no sign-up. It does use Google Analytics to count visits, which sets cookies in your browser.
Analytics
The site uses Google Analytics 4 to see how many people visit and which pages they read. Google receives standard visit data such as your approximate location, device and browser, and the pages you view. I use the totals only to understand how the site is read. You can block this with a browser content blocker or by turning off cookies for the site, and the site works the same either way.
What stays on your device
Your passport stamps and which notes you've read are saved in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device and are never sent to me.
Sharing
A paper boat or challenge link carries its message inside the link itself. Nothing is saved on a server, and I don't receive a copy.
Children
The site collects no information from anyone beyond the analytics above, children included.
Changes
If the site ever starts collecting anything more, this policy will be updated before that happens, and the change will be noted here.
